SEO and Stuff..

Who would have thought it, running a website is quite tough! Especially when you don’t make any money out of it (and in fact make a fair loss!).

I love it though, especially when you get thanks from people who have had some good come from being on the site, kinda makes it worthwhile (stop me if this gets a bit too gay..!). I suppose the fact that I’m a bit of an old (young?) geek and love messing around with the internet helps..

Well anyway, this post was actually intended to mention how I think our SEO is going. I’ve actually put quite a bit of effort into this recently, and I’m sure the rewards are paying off. The site and sections of the site are generally well-ranked in major search engines like google (although engines like MS Live and yahoo find the site more attractive for some reason :/) We have a healthy google pagerank, despite the total overhaul of the site this month which definately isn’t a good for SEO. Hopefull this will sort itself out when Google, etc realise whats happened and re-adjust.

Although there is still the problem of the old links containing /index.php/. I’ve added some mod_rewrite() code to re-direct these links to a page informing the visitor to search for the content, as it is still on the site, but I’m not certain this is very effective… so come on Google, sort it out!!!

More Images!

As a maintenance task we are going to go through and add some more images to the publisher and creator pages. It should give visitors a bit more information about the creator and the type of comics they create!

Software Upgrade

We’ve just upgraded to the latest version of our software, and will keep the site as up to date as possible to keep those pesky hackers out!

Of course I carry out my own testing by upgrading my replica site hosted locally first before releasing the changes to live, but if any little mishaps popped through give me the heads up and I can get right onto it!

Want a Personal Blog?

The newest feature to IndieReview, and one of the most important I think for new indie comic creators is the ability to host your own WordPress blog on IndieReview.

We are offering, Free of charge of course, a fully independant wordpress blog for any comic creators that don’t have their own webspace and would like the opportunity to have their own spot on the web.

You are able to do everything you could do on a WordPress blog hosted on your own webserver, fully administrate your blog, post unlimited posts, create unlimited pages, use any template, everything!! You also get the added benefit of our expertise in case of any problems.

Your web address would be something like www.indiereview.co.uk/blog/your_name (or anything you like really), and a bonus feature is we’ll throw in an indiereview email address such as your.name@indiereview.co.uk.

All you need to do is drop us as an email letting us know you want one and we’ll set you one up asap. So what are you waiting for?? email blog@indiereview.co.uk now!!

Updates!

Well its been a busy time lately, firstly we got our code hacked (which is sorted and vulnerabilities now sealed airtight)!! Then with the new design and functionality of the site hardly had a chance to have a break!

I’m really happy with the new site and features we are offering though, I feel that we got a bit carried away last time and really needed to get back to basics, offering information is a simple but effective manner, and I hope we have done that now.

We’d love to hear all your feedback too!
